Watched Train to Busan last night. Just sharing my personal opinion. Perhaps my opinion and my English vocab level is not that good. Still, this is my personal blog. So I should say I don’t give a damn? HAHA

As usual, small introduction about this movie.

Train to Busan (Hangul: 부산행; RR: Busanhaeng) is a 2016 South Korean zombie apocalypse thriller film directed by Yeon Sang-ho and starring Gong Yoo, Jung Yu-mi and Ma Dong-seok.[2] The film had its premiere in the Midnight Screenings section at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival on 13 May. On 7 August, the film set a record as the firstKorean film of 2016 to break the audience record with over 10 milliontheatergoers~. Train to Busan is a harrowing zombie horror-thriller that follows a group of terrified passengers fighting their way through a countrywide viral outbreak while trapped on a suspicion-filled, blood-drenched bullet train ride to Busan, a southern resort city that has managed to hold off the zombie hordes... or so everyone hopes.  An animated prequel, Seoul Station, was released less than a month later. (Perhaps I'll write another anime review about Seoul Station if I watched it)

Personal Opinion

For me, this movie cannot fully categorized under horror movie genre. Because it is not really that horror and scary though the girls seating next to me keep shouting when there is some horror parts.

Personally I think this movie really show what Korean production team do the best. They make it scary, horror or whatsoever you wish to describe it. But at the same time, they showing some warmness.

My comments/feelings 

Bad side of humanity

As you watching it in the early part, as Seok-woo (the male lead character) found out about the viral in the KTX, he’s running for live and his little daughter. He actually show the very worst part of human in the very beginning. Saw it, stand beside it but do nothing, even worst runaway. He basically let the macho guy defense for his pregnant wife. And while the married couple running to safer container and behind there is sooo much of “Zombie” chasing them, he closed the door!!! People only care for themselves. That’s humanity.

And when Seok-woo knows there is a way to escape from the isolation of army when the KTX stopped at the Daegu station, he reluctantly told the survivals. And her daughter wants to let the eldest to sit, Seok-woo told Soo-an to mind their own business.

Personal opinion, why he will act in this way, maybe is due his working environment, he is a fund manager. Middle of bureaucracy organization, if he’s too nice and good, staffs working under him will find the chance and replace him. So mind your own business is best way of surviving in the corporate world for him.

President shows the worst part of humanity as well.

First-when he knows Daegu station is no longer safe, he convince the captain drive again. While waiting for the rest of survivals to get back on the train, he keep mumbling and saying why the train isnt start moving yet and forced the staff to make decision to start the train without waiting for Seok-woo and the rest.

When baseball man texted the baseball girl about their situation and ask her to open the glassdoor to let them in. But as soon as the president found out, he is talk as if Seok-woo all got infected and scareness spreads among the safe survivals. To ensure Seok-woo not getting in, he instructs the survivals use whatever means to stop Seok-woo and the remaining survival to get in. Because of these bunch of stupid dumbass survival on the safe who cares about their lives, Sanghwa sacrifices himself to save his wife and the rest. And use whole body to stop zombie attack the rest.

Ok. Fine. Seok-woo they all got in. But the president start to spreading words like “look at them, do you think they could survive of getting infected. They are definitely got infected.” Use the public pressure to get what he wish. Eventually the public really follows as what he want – to get them away from the group. He speaks and let the dumbass do the dirty job.

What makes me feels so funny is they use tie, clothes to tie up the handle to prevent Seok-woo attack them. But that clothes tied to handle had eventually block their way to survive when the aunty opens the door and let the zombie in and that tie gives the best block to Seok-woo. Pathetic isnt it.

But the president still manage to survive by going in toilet as zombie wont attack if they can’t see human. But the president wish didn’t come true, as he and the staff plan to wait all the way until busan. However the railway got block and they have to switch another train to move on. To do that, again he uses KTX staff as a bait to get away. Stupid thing is he really manage escape but attract all zombies to follow him. Because he forgot close the door. What a dumbass it is. He then found a way to pass through another lane and again he use baseball girl as another bait to feed the zombies to buy him some time to escape again. Last, he go in the train by sacrifice one last victim the KTX captain. Few audience sitting nearby me keep saying that why KTX captain save him, he shouldn’t be saved. I wonder the same as well. But if we take a step behind and think, who can judge whether he should be save or not. Also, captain did not know what’s really going on in the train.

Good side of humanity

Sanghwa

Mentioning above Seok-woo didn’t save macho guy and his wife and even close the door. But macho guy still save him even Seok-woo did that to him. In Daegu station, he save his daughter from bitten by zombie. And Sanghwa even assist the baseball team to stop the zombie coming in, and when he saw Seok-woo and uncle running to the door he did not even hesitate for one second to open door let them in. And when they are going up to train, he save Seok-woo again before he got in to train.

Lastly, because of the president block their way get in, macho guy had got accidently got bitten from zombie while trying to block the zombie from coming in.

Baseball team

They actually can choose to run away and care less about the rest. Instead they waiting and assist for the rest to pass through the gate and almost of them got bitten. Left one member surviving and in total shock status- Young-guk.

Sang-hwa and Seok-woo got into the train and worrying about their wife and kid. Knowing that they are in trouble both of them have no choice but to walk across all the zombiesss and save them. But Young-guk, he have a choice. He can choose to stay at there and not to follow them. But he didn’t do that. He follows them to save the survivals.

Homeless uncle

He intentionally put a jacket on top of the zombie head to stop zombie attack Seok-woo. In return Seok-woo try to save him when they are trying to escape from zombie and going in to safe container.

When stop in the middle way and they need to get to other side of railway, suddenly there is uncontrolled train heading directly to their directly and crashed with the train beside them, he also sacrifice himself to block to zombie and buy some time to let Seok-woo find the way to save the pregnant lady and the kid.

Seok-woo changes 

First he is a cold blood person even his girl despice him. He is the one who cares only about his job. Experiencing the divorce with his wife and and need to take care Soo-an. He is the one close the door don’t let macho guy and his wife in. And when Soo-an let eldest to sit, he want her to mind their own business. And in Daegu station he knows the way to escape from isolation and he didn’t tell anyone.

But he changed, when he saw Sang-hwa and Seong-kyeong save Soo-an and open door to let him in. Which all of these, Sang-hwa need not to do that. From that moment, he changed from a cold blood person he changed to be slightly more human. He insist wait until Sang-hwa got in the train no matter what situation it is. At the end, they fought side by side with the zombiesss saving their wife and kid.  After Sang-hwa sacrificed himself, he actually protected Sang-hwa wife - Seong-kyeong. Even at the end, when Seok-woo got bitten, he put his daughter Soo-an and her at the safe place. To ensure Soo-an and Seong-kyeong safety, he then jump from the train to protect them away from his zombie attack.

Final comments

Another scene that makes me so pissed off is Seok-woo got bitten by him on the way to Busan. I mean just little more time they can all survive. What a waste.

Honestly speaking, if all of them made a very simple and same choice à mind your mind business, don’t care much about the others. The ending will be all of them died.

If Sanghwa and Seong Kyeong didn’t made the choice to save Soo-an, she died.

If homeless man didn’t put a jacket on top of zombie head and Sanghwa and the baseball team member didn’t open the door, Seok-woo will died.

If the baseball team didn’t choose to stay behind and help the survivals, they will not died so fast.

If Seong-Kyong and Soo-an didn’t save the aunty sister, that aunty no need to see her sister die in front of her and she even open the door let the zombie attack those survivals.

If the survivals didn’t push and force Seok woo them to other side, perhaps they could be saved, because I believe Seok woo seems to know a bit of the character of the zombie and the survival didn’t need the lock the other side of the door.

If Sanghwa didn’t sacrifice himself, Seok-woo they all will died too.

If Seok-woo didn’t commit suicide, his daughter and Seong-Kyeong died.

If Soo-an doesn’t sing, perhaps she and Seong-kyeong had died shot by army.
